Well, as of late I have made some changes to my hair care. If you’ve read any of my past hair regimens you know that I formerly detangled my hair in the shower, sopping wet and loaded with conditioner with a wide tooth comb. I’ve flipped the script. Dry finger detangling is the movement for my hair. I want to say I’ve been doing this for about 2 months give or take. Now I’ll get specific. Before my shower in which I have intentions to condition, I separate my hair into about 5 sections. I use some oil on my hands and work it through each section and feel for any tangles and knots. It takes patience but I am thoroughly satisfied with this method for now. My fingers have much greater digression and I have way less hair coming out than usually ends up in my comb. I twist each section when I’m through with it to get out of the way. I thoroughly wet my hair once I get in the shower while it’s still in twists and apply conditioner. I let it soak in while I take my shower. At the end of my shower, I unloose one twist at a time and feel for any last tangles while water is running through that section. I still leave a bit of conditioner in. I retwist each section if I have time and a final cold rinse. I squeeze excess water out in the same method with a t-shirt. If I still have my hair in twists, I apply product in each of those sections and air dry for a wash and go. If not, I just spread the product as I see fit. If this happens to be a day in which I’ll be cleansing, then after dry detangling, I may mist my scalp and apply the cleansing product to my scalp and rub it around just my scalp before I get into the shower and then rinse while in twists and go straight to apply conditioner. This is just to avoid having to retwist again. My twists would begin to unravel with the wet cleansing rubbing and rinsing. I’ve noticed my hair does not tangle nearly as much, single strand knots have decreased. I have half the hair loss than with a comb which makes me hope for some eventual noticeable length retention. I dyed my hair a week ago so I want to treat it extra delicately, keep it happy. Well if you guys have any questions, lemme know. Now nothing is wrong with my former method but this is tops for now.
ofcourse not =) thank you btw!! I wrote one before so I’m just reposting it with a fewww changes.
Well, I co-wash every 2-3 days. [I don’t shampoo and when I do use a cleansing product (absolutely always sulfate free), it will likely be only 1x/mnth after I’ve had a style in for a few days that I had to repeatedly add product to.] I bounce around conditioner brands all the time but my rotation right now consists of:
I never rinse out all of my conditioner, because it can double as leave in. I just make sure my scalp is clean. I detangle while I’m in the shower, hair sopping wet of course (wide tooth comb). I’ll separate it into 2-5 sections depending on how tangled it is. (nowadays, I braid or twist each detangled section so it doesn’t get in the way.) I rinse with cold water; this clumps the curls together nicely. When I get out of the shower I scrunch/squeeze excess water out of my hair with a t shirt and then apply a moisturizer/styling cream. I don’t always care about each individual curl being defined so I may or not apply this product in sections. Regardless I make sure my ends get a good dosage of this product. With this I also bounce around but the present brand rotation right now is:
(During the summer, especially the really humid days, I mix one of these with a lil eco styler gel.)
I find I like moisturizing styling creams/butters over gels/custards/puddings and such because after drying I sometimes get the jheri curl look with the latter and then I’d be forced to blow-dry a little for volume, stretching and movement. I do appreciate those products for updo’s or braid/twist outs…etc.
Ok, well after product application, I do not touch! Very little manipulation until it is almost dry. I air dryusually. When it’s dry I shake my hair up a little so that the curls don’t look stiff. So to summarize:
For sleep time, I use the pineapple method which is piling all of my hair at the top of my head in a loose ponytail. I put a satin bonnet over that. I may rub a little bit of an oil (jojoba, sesame, olive, Shea butter…etc) through my hair before I put it up other wise I save that step for when I rise. For the next day i let the ponytail down and shake =) fluff it up some. If it is unusually flat or I’ve lost a lot of curls, I’ll mist my hair with a glycerin, rosewater, aloe vera gel combo. I do know a couple of very good refresher spray brands but why bother when you can hook it up yourself. Well I scrunch that in and keep it moving =) OR sooometimes I will shower without a shower cap. My hair won’t get actually wet or even damp really but the mist and steam from the shower will give it some moisture to wake up yesterday’s product.
Once or twice a month I’ll do a braid out, or a twist out or chiney bumps/bantu knot out. That lasts me about 5 days. The end of this style is when I might cleanse and follow it up with a some sort of treatment (probably home made). I hope this wasn’t too all over the place. If anything wasn’t clear or if you have any questions feel free to ask about it =)
F-A-C-E, F-A-C-E What does that spell?! FACE…and that’s me *trumpet noise* (u had to be a nickjr. fan) I wanted this picture to go along with my regimen post below but for some reason it wouldn’t let me browse for a photo.I like ugly/pretty faces =)
oooo I feel so honored!! =)
