Well, as of late I have made some changes to my hair care. If you’ve read any of my past hair regimens you know that I formerly detangled my hair in the shower, sopping wet and loaded with conditioner with a wide tooth comb. I’ve flipped the script. Dry finger detangling is the movement for my hair. I want to say I’ve been doing this for about 2 months give or take. Now I’ll get specific. Before my shower in which I have intentions to condition, I separate my hair into about 5 sections. I use some oil on my hands and work it through each section and feel for any tangles and knots. It takes patience but I am thoroughly satisfied with this method for now. My fingers have much greater digression and I have way less hair coming out than usually ends up in my comb. I twist each section when I’m through with it to get out of the way. I thoroughly wet my hair once I get in the shower while it’s still in twists and apply conditioner. I let it soak in while I take my shower. At the end of my shower, I unloose one twist at a time and feel for any last tangles while water is running through that section. I still leave a bit of conditioner in. I retwist each section if I have time and a final cold rinse. I squeeze excess water out in the same method with a t-shirt. If I still have my hair in twists, I apply product in each of those sections and air dry for a wash and go. If not, I just spread the product as I see fit. If this happens to be a day in which I’ll be cleansing, then after dry detangling, I may mist my scalp and apply the cleansing product to my scalp and rub it around just my scalp before I get into the shower and then rinse while in twists and go straight to apply conditioner. This is just to avoid having to retwist again. My twists would begin to unravel with the wet cleansing rubbing and rinsing. I’ve noticed my hair does not tangle nearly as much, single strand knots have decreased. I have half the hair loss than with a comb which makes me hope for some eventual noticeable length retention. I dyed my hair a week ago so I want to treat it extra delicately, keep it happy. Well if you guys have any questions, lemme know. Now nothing is wrong with my former method but this is tops for now.

any product suggestions on how to make twist outs last longer?! Im currently in transition and can NEVER get more than 2nd day hair. also, what do you think about trying bantu knots
anjahlee-robinson anjahlee-robinson Said:

hi there! well my twist outs usually last me about a week. One of the methods that I’ve tried and also like  is two strand flat twisting the roots and then just twisting the remainder regularly.  Maybe you can try that too. I usually retwist every other night in bigger twists to go to bed and wear a satin bonnet.  The overnight maintenance is really key for me.  Right now I use a mixture of shea moisture’s curl enhacing smoothie with ecostyler gel. The ecostyler has nice, touchable hold for my twists.  Bantu knots are the shizz on wet hair for me.  When I try it on dry, it’s…a lil bleh. puffy, just eh and it only lasts me for like 2 days.  I use the same products for that style right now.  I have become pretty partial to the ecostyler gel mixed with…everything.

This is an old photo of a fresh twist out of mine.  The next few days, it’ll just grow and get more voluminous.

I haven’t really been active on Tumblr for 2 reasons. I’m no longer working the same work schedule so it has altered my leisure computer time AND school got INTENSO so I needed to focus! I’m almost done with finals though WOOHOO so expect my return =D.  ANY-HWAY, this post is about my hair.  Every few weeks or so, I get the urge to do something new and unexpected with my hair.  I usually let the feeling pass begrudgingly and keep it pushing with the health and consistent natural process.  But this time……………………………….(yes I needed that many ellipsis NO!!! NOT I SAID THE CAT! I straightened ( like for real for real straightened) my shabang, l cut off about 4 inches of length annndd threw some awesome layers in my head (all by myself) MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAA.  I know AAAHHHH, the heat! THE ENEMY!!!  BUT I’m tired of being scared.  If it gets damaged, I got an excuse to try a new style and grow it back.  I’m not trying to damage my hair.  I went about straightening it safely; I just miss hair journeys.  This is my first time straight in over 2 years and before that one time…son, it’s been a while.  I just needed a few days of new.  I got a whole lot of “I didn’t  recognize you’s” which makes me wonder if my hair is more distinguished than my face.  I got some compliments and some protesters.  Thats the usual though lol.
Well…………………next stop
DYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! yes, you read right. I won’t tell you my exact plans but if it all breaks off then I get to do a cute short cut MWAHAHAHA WIN WIN.  I gotta allow myself time to screw around.  I went from wash and sets and basically daily flat iron maintenance from 11to 17yrs old, effed around a lil back and forth until I eventually cut off all the straight and damaged pieces.  I did one or two cute cuts and dye jobs since, but it was still years ago and sometimes I get so bored.  I am no longer a natural hair punk.  I love the health of my hair now and all the styles I do but I can’t fear hair change.  I’m embracing diversity and versatility. Pics to come =)

^_^  Ima need a twist out NAOW. A few quick, easy and cute hairstyles from Naptural85

My coworker comes in and immediately says to me,

“what’s with this jungle hair?”

Now yall knooowww I was about to go AOWFF. So I pause the video I was watching and start to rapidly evaluate my reaction options and I say

“wait, what did you ask me?” to buy thinking time and he repeats himself O_O, buutt then I look up and remember the massive amazon greenery decorating the lobby as of late and realize he is asking

“what’s with the jungle HERE?”

lolololol I do my best to return to calm and say,

“that’s exactly what I said.”(relief)

It’s unfortunate that I’m always on edge about my hair when I’m at work. Last week, another coworker prodded about straightening. I let them know: yup, I’ve done it before, that previously I strictly wore it straight and didn’t even know what my hair was really like. He encouraged me to straighten it again, just to see. I showed him a pic and said…

“Now u’ve seen it”

(I’m not anti-straightening; diversity in styling options is cool but I am anti heat damage and chemically straightening) He said …

“well, you could at least do it for a special occasion”

-_- the fuck?! I hear this kind of ish day in and day out, equally caustic even as time progresses. smh

because my best is a sexpot and because my curls were awesome this night. farewell summer

ofcourse not =) thank you btw!! I wrote one before so I’m just reposting it with a fewww changes.

Well, I co-wash every 2-3 days. [I don’t shampoo and when I do use a cleansing product (absolutely always sulfate free), it will likely be only 1x/mnth after I’ve had a style in for a few days that I had to repeatedly add product to.] I bounce around conditioner brands all the time but my rotation right now consists of:

  • Shea Moisture’s Raw shea moisture restorative conditioner
  • Kinky Curly Knot today
  • Trader Joe’s Nourish Spa Conditioner ( I have almost exclusively been using this all summer)

I never rinse out all of my conditioner, because it can double as leave in.  I just make sure my scalp is clean.  I detangle while I’m in the shower, hair sopping wet of course (wide tooth comb).  I’ll separate it into 2-5 sections depending on how tangled it is. (nowadays, I braid or twist each detangled section so it doesn’t get in the way.) I rinse with cold water; this clumps the curls together nicely. When I get out of the shower I scrunch/squeeze excess water out of my hair with a t shirt and then apply a moisturizer/styling cream. I don’t always care about each individual curl being defined so I may or not apply this product in sections. Regardless I make sure my ends get a good dosage of this product. With this I also bounce around but the present brand rotation right now is:

  • Darcy’s Botanicals Madagascar Vanilla Styling Cream
  • Afroveda (can’t go wrong with any of their creams)
  • Elasta QP Mango Butter

(During the summer, especially the really humid days, I mix one of these with a lil eco styler gel.)

I find I like moisturizing styling creams/butters over gels/custards/puddings and such because after drying I sometimes get the jheri curl look with the latter and then I’d be forced to blow-dry a little for volume, stretching and movement.  I do appreciate those products for updo’s or braid/twist outs…etc.

Ok, well after product application, I do not touch! Very little manipulation until it is almost dry. I air dryusually. When it’s dry I shake my hair up a little so that the curls don’t look stiff. So to summarize:

  • cowash
  • detangle
  • rinse with cold water
  • scrunch/squeeze excess water with tshirt
  • apply moisturizing styling aid
  • airdry

For sleep time, I use the pineapple method which is piling all of my hair at the top of my head in a loose ponytail. I put a satin bonnet over that.  I may rub a little bit of an oil (jojoba, sesame, olive, Shea butter…etc) through my hair before I put it up other wise I save that step for when I rise.  For the next day i let the ponytail down and shake =) fluff it up some.  If it is unusually flat or I’ve lost a lot of curls, I’ll mist my hair with a glycerin, rosewater, aloe vera gel combo.  I do know a couple of very good refresher spray brands but why bother when you can hook it up yourself. Well I scrunch that in and keep it moving =) OR sooometimes I will shower without a shower cap. My hair won’t get actually wet or even damp really but the mist and steam from the shower will give it some moisture to wake up yesterday’s product.

Once or twice a month I’ll do a braid out, or a twist out or chiney bumps/bantu knot out.  That lasts me about 5 days. The end of this style is when I might cleanse and follow it up with a some sort of treatment (probably home made). I hope this wasn’t too all over the place. If anything wasn’t clear or if you have any questions feel free to ask about it =)

Counting down to Vacay!!! MIAMMIII woooooo!!! My curls are happy too =D

F-A-C-E, F-A-C-E What does that spell?! FACE…and that’s me *trumpet noise* (u had to be a nickjr. fan) I wanted this picture to go along with my regimen post below but for some reason it wouldn’t let me browse for a photo.I like ugly/pretty faces =)
